Atlanta, GA - December 7, 2011. Fulton County District 3 Commissioner Liz Haumann joined with Chairman John Eaves and Commissioner Joan Garner to sponsor a bill to establish the Fulton County Division of Economic Development, including the development of an administrative structure and proposed initial annual operating budget of $750,000 for FY2012. Commissioner Tom Lowe also supported the division's creation. The Division will be responsible for coordinating all services and activities associated with Fulton County policy and economic development initiatives.
"We need to tell the Fulton County story," said Commissioner Hausmann. "We are the premier county in the state and need to showcase our assets to the world. Our primary goal is quality job creation."
"Today, we put Fulton County in a far better position to create jobs and grow our economy," said Chairman Eaves. "By bringing together the business community, the cities of Fulton, our educational institutions, the State of Georgia with the Development Authority and the new Fulton County Division of Economic Development, we will serve our citizens by attracting, retaining and expanding businesses in our county which brings new jobs."
"While we treasure the presence of major employers here in Fulton County, the introduction of this new bill will allow us to continue our commitment to expanding businesses and creating job opportunities, given the challenging economic climate," said Commissioner Garner.
Brandon Beach, president & CEO of The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, applauded the action. "The Chamber and Progress Partners, our economic development initiative, look forward to partnering with Fulton County on economic development opportunities.
