Our Mission

Promote economic development and workforce readiness in the North Fulton community by supporting the education system to include students, educators, and institutions.  The Committee strives to help form partnerships between North Fulton schools and businesses.

Events for 2013

The Education Committee will host a quarterly update on its activities for Chamber members interested in volunteering. The next Quarterly Update will be held Tuesday, May 7th at 5:30 pm  at the GNFCC office. Chamber members in good standing are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

Business Partner of the Year Award, April

The Committee recognizes outstanding partnerships between North Fulton schools and local businesses.  Awards are given annually in both the large and small business categories at the April Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast.  The partnering schools receive $250 each.  Winners in 2012 were Duke Realty and Studio 7 Photography.

High School Valedictorian Recognition, April

The Committee recognizes North Fulton’s high school valedictorians with awards given at the April Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast.

College Scholarships, April

The Committee awarded two scholarships (Bruce Wood and George Wills Scholarships) in 2012 to outstanding business students at the April Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast.  Going forward, the Chamber has restructured its scholarship program as one GNFCC scholarship for $3,000.  The Committee is seeking new funding and partners for its scholarship program.

Junior Achievement Day, April

Volunteers from both the Education Committee and the local business community partnered with Junior Achievement to teach students at Mimosa Elementary School in Roswell about work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship.

Partner in Education Connection Event, September

The Committee hosts a connection event each fall to educate both local businesses and schools about how to form a partnership and get the most out of it.  We stress that the partnership is a two-way street and successful partnerships are more about time and service than money.

Can Do Good Food Drive and Competition, November

The Committee will partner with Goodwyn Mills and Cawood, a regional architecture and engineering firm, to coordinate the second annual Can Do Good Food Drive and Competition. Local high school students collect non-perishable food items and build an artistic structure from what they collect. The competition will be held at North Point Mall.  The collected food will be given to North Fulton Community Charities.

Principal for a Day, November

The Committee helps promote Fulton County School System’s Principal for a Day program and encourages participation by the local business community. Typically held during National Education Week, the Principal for a Day program allows a community leader to shadow a principal and encourages that community leader to invite the principal to do the same at the business person’s workplace.
